RE: Publishing Windows small business VPN thorugh stand alone ISA2004

Hi Mario:
Thank you for posting here. I am sorry for the delayed response due to
weekend. Please understand that the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by
Microsoft Support professionals to answer your systems and applications
questions. Your understanding is greatly appreciated!

>From the description, I understand that once you established the VPN
connection to the SBS Server from a remote client, you cannot browse the
"My Network Places", but you can ping the IP address of the internal
clients and access the shared folder on the SBS network. If I have
misunderstood your concern, please do let me know.

Based on my research, this is a known behavior. When you connect to a
Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 domain as a remote user, the
SBS 2003 server does not appear in the browse list in My Network Places.
Instead, you can see only your own computer and the computers of other
remote users.

This problem occurs because the NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) protocol is
disabled for the Routing and Remote Access service on the SBS 2003 server.
Therefore, the remote client cannot browse the network through My Network
Places because network browsing requires the NetBT protocol.

Network Places

In addition, I notice that you are using the stand-alone ISA Server. As we
know, the ISA Server Standard 2004 is freely included in the SBS 2003
Premium Service Pack 1. If you are using the Premium Edition, I suggest you
call the supplier and obtain the disk of Service Pack 1. The ISA installed
on the SBS Server will be highly integrated with the SBS and the built-in
wizard will automatically create the publishing rules/access rules for the
ISA.

For your convenience, I attach the URL as following if you want to order
the CD package:

Hope the above information helps. Please feel free to let me know if there
is anything I can do for you.

Have a nice day! :-)

Best Regards
Edward Tian(MSFT)

| I have a sbs2003 behind a standand alone ISA2003 box. I am having issues
| publishing the VPN server running on the sms2003 box. I visited the
technet
| article "publishing a VPN Server in ISA 2004" and follow the steps to
publish
| VPN over PPTP. but when i try to connect i get to authenticate with the
VPN

| internal network, and also use the relative path on the run program. and
see
