Re: is it possible to add contacts to the GLOBAL List??

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

HI Simon,

Welcome to SBS newsgroup. Dave thanks a lot for your valuable updates.

Issue description:
===========

I understand that you want to know how to make the contacts visible on SBS
GAL list.

Analyzing and suggestions:
============

Just as Dave explained, if you create contacts in ADUC, the contacts will
be visible on GAL. You can refer to the steps below:

1. Open ADUC on the administrator tools.
2. Right click the OU you want to create a new contact.
3. Choose new contact.
4. Follow the wizard to create a new contact.

We do have a public folder contacts which can be used for the same function
as AD contacts, you can refer to Dave's suggestion to create a public
folder contacts.

Please note that the public folder contacts can be only searched on the
outlook mail client, it can not used on OWA, that means you can not use OWA
to send email to the public folder contacts. Please refer to the article
below for more detailed information:

192775 XCLN: Outlook Web Access Cannot Use Contacts in Public Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=192775

Hope the above information helpful, please feel free to let me know, if you
still have concerns on this issue. It's my pleasure to be of further
assistance.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| You can create contacts in Active Directory and have them appear in the
GAL.
|
| IMO this is not the best approach to handling shared contact information
for
| a variety of reasons. Two that come right to mind: AD contacts have to
be
| created, edited, and maintained by the admin, whereas Public Folder
contacts
| can be done by anyone with the appropriate permissions, right from
Outlook.
| And, public folder contacts have additional functionality such as the
| ability to use them in mail merges, insert addresses directly into Word
| documents, etc.
