Hello David,
Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup.
Also, many thanks for Russ's great input.
I am sorry for the delayed response due to the weekend. Please understand
that the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals
to answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!
According to your description, I understand that you have some problems
with the SBS 2003 Exchange message tracking. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.
To narrow down this issue, please answer and perform the following
questions and steps:
1. Please provide the exact error message with any screenshots if
possible.
To do this, please follow the steps below:
a) When the screen appears, press PrScrn (this key is located to the right
of the
F12 key on the keyboard)
b) Create a new Word document and open it.
c) Press Ctrl + V to paste the screen shot into the document.
d) Attach the document in your reply.
2. Based on my experience, this issue can occur if the account you use
does not have Read permissions on the following two registry entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Exchange\language
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurePipeServer\Winreg
I therefore would like to suggest us check the Security setting on the
registry entries above.
If the issue persists, please continue with next step.
The error may also appear if the account which you are using does not have
full permission to the mailbox store in this Exchange Server. You can
manually grant the account Full Control permission at each mailbox store
properties --> Security. After that, please dismount the store and then
re-mount it.
3. If the issue persists, please open Service console (services.msc) and
verify that the "Microsoft Exchange Management Service" and the "Windows
Management Instrumentation" services are both running on LocalSystem
Account and check "Allow service to interact with desktop" checkbox checked
on the Logon tab of the Exchange Management service.
If any of the services are not running on LocalSystem Account - Change its
"Log On as" to "LocalSystem Account". Then restart the service of which the
account has been changed. After the service(s) restart, restart Exchange
System Manager.
If the issue still persists, please help me collect the following
information:
1) Select Administrative Tools and click Event Viewer.
2) In Event Viewer windows, right-click Application, select Save Log File
As to backup.
3) Right-click Application and select Clear all Events.
4) Reproduce the issue and paste the error messages in the Event log to the
newsgroup. You can remove the sensitive information.
I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel
free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Nathan Liu (MSFT)
