RE: When VPN connects IP and GATEWAY get same address

Dear Jamie:
Thank you for posting here.
>From the description, I understand that when a particular remote user
connected to the SBS Server via VPN, it got an IP address 192.168.0.105
from the DHCP which is the same IP address of the default gateway.
And the network diagram looks like the following:
Remote Laptop---Router---Internet---Router---SBS Server(VPN
Server)----Internal clients
If I am off base, please do let me know.
Before we go any further, can I assume that this problem only occurred on
this specific laptop?
Regarding the current status, please help me gather the following
information in order to narrow down the issue:
1. Once the VPN connection is established, type "ipconfig/all >
d:\filename.txt" and "route print > d:\filename.txt" (without quotation
mark) from both the SBS Server and the remote laptop, and send these two
txt files to my mailbox: v-edtian@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for further investigation.
2. The problem may occur if both the local default gateway of the laptop
(the default gateway before the VPN connection is established) and the SBS
Server reside in the same subnet 192.168.0.x. If this is the case, we may
need to change the IP schema of the remote client side in order to make
these two subnets separately. For example:
The SBS Server uses the IP schema: 192.168.0.x/255.255.255.0
The remote laptop uses the IP schema: 192.168.1.x/255.255.255.0
3. Once the VPN connection is established, can the laptop ping the
Server/client?
4. Do you have ISA installed? If so, which version is the ISA Server?
Please understand that I could not provide you a solid solution in the
first response due to lack of information. Thank you for your understanding
on it.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a nice day! :)
Best Regards
Edward Tian(MSFT)

| Hi all,
| We have a sbs2000 server that we connect to via VPN.
| This works normally except for one single laptop, which when it connects
| it gets DHCP address 192.168.0.105
| subnet mask: 255.255.255.255
| gateway: 192.168.0.105
|
| Is there something wrong with this laptop? I have tried clearing out the
| winsock lsp's also.
|
|
| Any assistance appreciated,
| -Jamie
