Hi Tommy:
Thanks for posting here.
>From the description, I understand that you cannot initialize the VPN
connection from the clients behind your SBS 2003 server. The network
diagram looks like the following:
{Internet}===={Hardware Router}===={SBS server}===={Internal workstations}
Could you please let me know if this is a Premium SBS server box with ISA
installed? If so, please see my comments below:
1. To support the PPTP VPN clients behind the ISA server, we need to
configure some settings on the ISA server. For the detailed settings,
please refer to the following KB article:
283628 How to Enable PPTP Clients to Connect Through an ISA Firewall
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=283628
2. The VPN clients must be SecureNAT clients. Please disable the firewall
client on the client computer. Make sure that the default gateway of the
client computer is pointing to the SBS server's internal IP address.
After doing the above steps, will you be able to establish the VPN
connection?
Regarding the Remote Access wizard in SBS server, it's used to configure
the SBS server as a VPN server. After running that wizard, the SBS server
will act as a VPN server and the incoming VPN requests will be accepted by
the SBS server. However, it does not affect the outgoing VPN clients.
If there is no ISA server installed on the SBS, please help to gather the
following information for further research:
1. Make sure that the default gateway on the clients is pointing to the SBS
server.
2. When you attempt to establish the VPN connection, what error message
prompts? Please capture a screen-shoot of the error and send it to me at
v-edtian@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
3. Type ipconfig/all on both the client side and server side, and send the
output to me for further analysis.
4. Are there any errors in the Event Viewer? If any, please also send them
to my mailbox.
5. Does the problem occur on all the internal clients?
I hope the above information helps. If you have any questions or concerns,
please feel free to let me know.
Have a nice day!
Best Regards
Edward Tian(MSFT)

| I have a problem making outbound VPN connections from my SBS2003 network.
I
| know it is some settings in the server because when I plugged my XP Pro
| client directly to my router and bypass my SBS2003 network I can make
the
| VPN connections with no problem. I have tried running the Remote Access
| wizard, but that does not seem to help at all.
| Any help would be appreciated.
| Thanks
