RE: Upgrading from SBS 2K to SBS 2003

HI Mil,

Thanks for updates.

>From your description, it seems you only export every mailbox to a PST
files as backup, you only want to recover every mailbox for every user. If
I am off target, please let me know.

If this is your issue, this issue should be a outlook issue, please see my
suggestion below:

Please understand that you need to make sure that the contacts and calendar
you want to recovery should be reside on Exchange side not a local contacts
for outlook personal folder. You need also make sure that the contacts and
calendar folder is import while you export your exchange mailbox to PST
files.

You can refer to the following article to make sure that you have export
all the setting on the mailbox to a PST files.

287456 OL2002: How to Work with Personal Folders Files
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=287456

287070 OL2002: How to Back Up, Restore, or Move Outlook Data
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=287070

If you make sure that all the mailbox setting is export to the PST file and
restore it correctly. Please help gather the information below:

1. Does the issue occur on every user or only occur on some users?
2. From your first reply, it seems only some of the user's appointment
calendar did not work. Can you create a new appointment for those users to
see if you can reproduce the issue or not?
3. Please also make sure that all your domain user use the Exchange mailbox
and they did not store any of their calendar or appointment locally on
personal folder. (On outlook we can also create a personal folder to store
the emails.)

If you use Exchange 2000 backup to restore Exchange 2003 database rather
than import the mailbox individually to each user it will cause a lot of
unexpected issue, it is your best interest to import the PST files to each
user again for repairing the problem.

Hope the above information helpful, if possible you can create a new user
then import the backup of the PST file to see if the issue is still exist
or not?

Thanks for your effort on this issue.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| Hi Charles,
|
| I did not have a backup of Exchange 2003 as this was the first time that
| Exchange 2003 was run. I had upgraded the SBS from 2K to 2003 therefore
was
| using the Exchange 2K backup as a restore of the mailboxes.
|
| I had done a backup of each individual mailbox to pst locally but the IT
| people that were out to help me with this used the backup tape to restore
the
| mailboxes rather than importing the pst files individually as we did not
use
| ExMerge. It was only 30 machines and it wouldn't have taken long to do.
|
| I don't think that these guys knew what they were doing in regards to
| Exchange.
|
| How do I overcome the Calendar issue?
|
| Thanks
|
