After you applied the SBS SP1, you encountered many problems and
reinstalled the SP1 from CD again, you still had problems:
The help link inside Event log does not work.
You got errors like 'IAS is not aligned on an 8 byte boundary, please
contact the vendor".
The Companyweb site does not work.
Let us try to troubleshooting your issues one by one:
The Help and Support service by default is installed. You can follow these

and then click "OK".
3. Double-click "Help and Support" if it exits in services list.
4. For "Startup type", click "Automatic", and then click "OK".
If you can not find the Help and Support Service in services console,
please run the following command to install the service.
%windir%\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\helpsvc.exe /install /regserver /svchost
netsvcs /reinstall
You can run the command line in cmd: Start->Run-> input cmd to open and
input above command.
Note: to install the service you must an administrator
II. Regarding to IAS service errors, the original problem should be only
related with the Exchange monitoring components. The problem could be
caused by the corruption in the WMI Repository. The server collects the
performance and platform information through the WMI interface. If the WMI
repository is corrupted, the failure could occur.
Here, I would like to give you the following action plan:
1. Open Command prompt, type the following commands:
Winmgmt /clearadap
Winmgmt /resyncperf
After doing the above steps, open Service console in Administrative Tools.
Restart Windows Management Instrumentation service.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/
winmgmt.asp
Try to test, does it fix the issue?
2. If the issue persists, Please try the following steps to disable the
data buffer alignment test:
a. Click 'Start'-->'Run'-->Type 'regedit' (without the quotation marks) and
press Enter.
b. Navigate to the follow registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib
c. Right-click it and choose 'New'-->'DWORD Value'. Create a new REG_DWORD
value named 'Configuration Flags'
d. Double-click the newly created DWORD value and modify the Value data to 1
e. Close the registry editor and restart the server at a non-business time
to see if the problem occurs again.

a. Right-click 'My Computer' and choose 'Manager'. In the computer
management console, navigate to Services and Applications\WMI Control.
Right-click it and choose 'Properties'.
b. In the WMI control properties window, click 'Backup/Restore' tab. Click
'Back Up Now' button to create a backup of the current repository.
c. Open Services console in Administrative Tools. Stop Windows Management
Instrumentation service. Set the startup type form automatic to Disable.
d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to %systemroot%\system32\wbem\ Rename
the folder 'Repository' to something else. After doing this, go back to
Services console, set the WMI service back to automatic, and then enable
service. Open a command prompt and run the following command:
for %1 in (%systemroot%\system32\wbem\*.mof
%systemroot%\system32\wbem\*.mfl) do mofcomp %1
How about the result? Does it fix the issue?
III. Regarding to the Companyweb issue, please help me collect some
information to isolate the issue:
1. Can you describe more detail about the companyweb issue? Can you access
the Companyweb site using http://companyweb URL successfully? Could you
help me catch some screen shots when the issues happened for further

Hi Greg,
Thanks for posting here!
For your description, I understand that you want to remove and reinstall
the whole SBS 2003 SP1. If I am off base, please don¡¯t hesitate to let me
know.
The whole SBS 2003 SP1 package disks including:
**Windows Server 2003 SP1
**Windows SharePoint Services SP1
**Exchange Server 2003 SP1
**Outlook 2003 SP1 (applies to each client)
**Windows XP SP2 (applies to each client)
**Active Sync 3.8 (applies to each client)
**SBS 2003 SP1
**SQL Server 2000 SP4 (Premium only)
**ISA 2004 (Premium only)
It is not recommended that we remove SBS SP1. And we can only remove
Windows 2003 SP1 in Add/Remove Programs since the SBS SP1 merges with other
service packs (including Windows 2003 SP, Exchange SP, Sharepoint SP and so
on) and we can not remove the SBS 2003 SP1.
What is the matter of your SBS server box? Could you tell me the detail
symptom and I am glad to help you with the SBS issues.
If you need to reinstall the SBS SP1, you can directly insert the first SBS
SP1 CD to reapply it again to see if your issue can be fixed. If you just
applied the SBS SP1 and had issues, the easier method to resolve it is that
you restore the SBS server from backup media before the SP1 applied. And
then reapply it follow Microsoft white paper to make every thing well.
I would like to give you some suggestions to smooth the installation:
Suggestion 1:
Before you begin to research your issue, I suggest you follow the below
white paper to backup your SBS server first. So your business and data
could be kept safe no matter how the troubleshooting process goes.

Suggestion 2:
It is recommended you apply SBS sp1 follow installation guide provided by
Microsoft and you will not encounter many issues.
You can refer to the following link to apply SBS SP1:

In the following website you can find many useful resources related to SBS
SP1:

The website includes: What is SP1 for SBS 2003 and what you need to know |
Standard install step-by-step | Premium install step-by-step | Things to do
after the upgrade | Errors that can occur after the upgrade
Suggestion 3:
To prepare Windows Small Business Server to deploy Windows XP SP2 to client
computers that are running Windows XP Professional, follow these steps on
your Windows Small Business Server-based computer:
Please refer to the following KB article:
884032 Update is available for the Windows Small Business Server 2003 Client
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=884032
Note: installing hotfix 884032 may fail with error about fax service; you
can refer to follow steps to resolve:
Resolution:
================
1. Uninstall Fax Service via SBS Setup using component Selection screen,
set the Action to Uninstall for the Fax Service.
- May require you to Set the correct permissions on the Default Domain
Controller User Right Assignments
- under Group policy - Computer Configuration / Windows Settings / Local
Policys / User Rights Assignments
2. Complete the wizard.
3. Rename the following keys and files to *.old:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Fax
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\fax
C:\Winnt\FaxSetup.log
4. Reboot the server
5. Reinstalled the fax service
Hope above information helps! If you have any further concern or question
on the issue please feel free to let me know. I am always happy to be of
further assistance and look forward to your reply!
Have a nice day!
