They use far too much of the CPU time and will HARD lock the system if a
slight fault is detected, fine for a PC where you can restart as needed, not
on a server though
Exp. PCTEL modems (put in bin if you have one of these or use as a paper
weight)

for the small cost of a decent modem its not worth the hassle, have an easy
life and get a USR or Hayes
