RE: Service Pack 1 on SBS 2003 Premium

Hi Greg,

Thanks for your update! I appreciate your time and efforts to the issue.
Could I confirm with you that your now scenarios as follows:

After you applied the SBS SP1, you encountered many problems and
reinstalled the SP1 from CD again, you still had problems:
1. The help link inside Event log does not work.
2. You got errors like 'IAS is not aligned on an 8 byte boundary, please
contact the vendor".
3. The Companyweb site does not work.

Let us try to troubleshooting your issues one by one:

I. The Help and Support service by default is installed. You can follow
these steps to check the service:

1. Click "Start", and then click "Run".
2. In the "Open" box, type "services.msc /s" (without the quotation marks),
and then click "OK".
3. Double-click "Help and Support" if it exits in services list.
4. For "Startup type", click "Automatic", and then click "OK".

If you can not find the Help and Support Service in services console,
please run the following command to install the service.

%windir%\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\helpsvc.exe /install /regserver /svchost
netsvcs /reinstall

You can run the command line in cmd: Start->Run-> input cmd to open and
input above command.
Note: to install the service you must an administrator

II. Regarding to IAS service errors, the original problem should be only
related with the Exchange monitoring components. The problem could be
caused by the corruption in the WMI Repository. The server collects the
performance and platform information through the WMI interface. If the WMI
repository is corrupted, the failure could occur.

Here, I would like to give you the following action plan:

1. Open Command prompt, type the following commands:

Winmgmt /clearadap
Winmgmt /resyncperf

After doing the above steps, open Service console in Administrative Tools.
Restart Windows Management Instrumentation service.
More information:
266416 How to Troubleshoot WinMgmt-Based Performance Counter Errors
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=266416

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/
winmgmt.asp

Try to test, does it fix the issue?

2. If the issue persists, Please try the following steps to disable the
data buffer alignment test:

a. Click 'Start'-->'Run'-->Type 'regedit' (without the quotation marks) and
press Enter.
b. Navigate to the follow registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib

c. Right-click it and choose 'New'-->'DWORD Value'. Create a new REG_DWORD
value named 'Configuration Flags'
d. Double-click the newly created DWORD value and modify the Value data to 1
e. Close the registry editor and restart the server at a non-business time
to see if the problem occurs again.

For more information:
249138 INFO: Controlling the Disabling of Performance Monitor Extensions
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=249138

3. If the problem still occurs, please try the following steps to rebuild
the WMI repository to see if the problem will be resolved:

a. Right-click 'My Computer' and choose 'Manager'. In the computer
management console, navigate to Services and Applications\WMI Control.
Right-click it and choose 'Properties'.

b. In the WMI control properties window, click 'Backup/Restore' tab. Click
'Back Up Now' button to create a backup of the current repository.

c. Open Services console in Administrative Tools. Stop Windows Management
Instrumentation service. Set the startup type form automatic to Disable.

d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to %systemroot%\system32\wbem\ Rename
the folder 'Repository' to something else. After doing this, go back to
Services console, set the WMI service back to automatic, and then enable
service. Open a command prompt and run the following command:

for %1 in (%systemroot%\system32\wbem\*.mof
%systemroot%\system32\wbem\*.mfl) do mofcomp %1

How about the result? Does it fix the issue?

III. Regarding to the Companyweb issue, please help me collect some
information to isolate the issue:

1. Can you describe more detail about the companyweb issue? Can you access
the Companyweb site using http://companyweb URL successfully? Could you
help me catch some screen shots when the issues happened for further
analyze?

2. Have you applied the whole SBS SP1 successfully? When you applied the
SP1, did you have any errors? Could you help me collect setup log files:

a) C:\Windows\svcpack.log
b) %temp%\Ohotfix\OHotfix(0000x).log and OHotfix(0000x)_Msi.log
c) C:\Exchange Server Setup Progress.log
d) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server
2003\Logs\setup.log
e) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server
2003\Logs\errorlog.txt
f) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server
2003\Logs\eventlog.txt

g). Please respectively save a text copy of Application /System log:

1). Open Event Viewer: Start -> All Programs -> Administrative Tools ->
Event Viewer.
2). Right-click on Application/System log and select "Save Log File As?".

Please add all the files to a zip file and send to my mail address
v-yanniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I appreciate you time and efforts to the issue. I am currently standing by
for your test result. I am always happy to be of further assistance.

Have a nice day!

Best Regards,

Jenny Wu
