Hi Greg,
Thanks for posting here!
For your description, I understand that you have some questions regarding
to Connect to client desktops item in RWW site. If I am off base, please
don't hesitate to let me know.
In Connect to Client desktops item lists all client computers on your SBS
network that are running Windows XP or above; In Connect to Server desktops
item lists all server computers (including the SBS server box and all other
additional server boxes) on the network in RWW web site. Both items only
show in web page if the authenticated user belongs to the Domain Admins
group. So if those Windows2k3 workstations are client computers, they will
show in that list and also they should list at right panel of Client
computers node (Server Management console -> Client Computers in SBS server
box). If user does not belong to domain admins group, it will not see above
two items. And if user is a member of Web Workplace Users group but not
the Administrators group, it can access its own work computer in office and
additional terminal server. By default, domain users are members of Web
Workplace Users group, so if those Windows2k3 workstations are joined to
domain and are assigned to some user accounts, those users will logon the
computers remotely.
You can follow below steps to add those computers to domain:
I. Add computers account to domain. To do this as follow steps:
1. Open Server Management console, locate Client Computers node and click
Set Up Client computers link to open add computer wizard.
2. Follow the wizard to add these computers account to domain.
II. Run Connect computer wizard to join the computer to domain in client
side. The detail steps:
1. Logon the PC with local administrator account and ensure the workstation
is assigned with correct IP address, DNS (the SBS server internal IP) and
gateway IP address.
2. Please ensure you have added the SBS Site (http://FQDN/*) in trusted
site in IE. You can refer to the following steps:
a. Start Internet Explorer.
b. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
c. On the Security tab, click Local intranet zone, and then click Sites.
d. Click Advanced.
e. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type the ConnectComputer
server's IP address or the ConnectComputer server's FQDN, and then click
Add.
*Note: You must type the ConnectComputer server's IP address or the
ConnectComputer server's FQDN in the http://IP address or http://FQDN
format.
f. Click OK, click OK, and then click OK.
3. Please check some of the security settings in Internet Explorer. You can
refer to the following steps:
a. Open Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
b. Click the Security tab, select Internet and click Custom Level.
c. Select Prompt or Enable for Download signed ActiveX controls and
Download unsigned ActiveX controls.
d. Click OK. Restart IE and have a test.
4. Then open the http://servername/connectcomputer in the IE to add this
workstation to the domain. By walking through this wizard, all the
configuration of client computer will be done automatically including
client application assignment.
Try to logon the workstation using the domain user account and logon RWW,
what it can see and do it can access that computer remotely?
If you have any further concern or question on the issue please feel free
to let me know. I am always happy to be assistance of you and looking
forward to your reply!
Have a nice day!
Best Regards,
Jenny Wu
