RE: Shadow Copy Service Failing

Hi Leighton,
Sorry for my delayed reply due to the complexity of this issue and the
weekend.
I have performed a lot of research on the backup logs and event logs.
There are some error event logs such as error 6013 and error 8019 which
seems to be related to the SQL Desktop Engine database. Based on my
research, This issue may occur if the SQL database is configured on drive E
and there are some file require to be backed up as part of system state
with SQL. The MSDEwriter will report an error if you try to create a
shadow copy set that has one of the volumes but not the other. The problem
is that in this configuration NTBackup doesn't pick up the correct set of
volumes. By selecting system state, NTBackup requests for a shadow copy to
be created on the boot volume. By the time NTBackup requests for the
location of the SQL, the shadow copy has already been created. Thus,
NTBackup will not create a snapshot on E:. This throws the MSDEwriter off,
thinking that NTBackup is not going to pick up all its data on E: thus
causing an error.
To test whether this is the case, please create a simple txt file (using
Notepad) in drive E and select the file as part of system state and run
system state back up manually.
In addition, it is strange that the logs in "data.zip" and "support
file.zip" files are very old, they were created before 1/21/2004, and the
latest backup log was logged on 1/21/2004. Therefore, I cannot find any
useful information related to this issue from these log files.
If the issue persists, please help me to collect the "data" and "support"
folders again, and please ensure that the latest backup logs are logged in
these files. Please also help me to collect the Application logs again
after performing the test. These logs are important for me to troubleshoot
this issue more efficiently. Thanks for your cooperation and efforts.
Please let me know the test result at your earliest convenience, and I look
forward to hearing from you soon.
Have a great week!
Steven Wang
