Hi,

on SBS Premium have upgraded Sharepoint to full SQL and installed SQL
service pack on the Sharepoint instance.
All is working fine and in SQL Enterprise on the server itself have added
the servername\SHAREPOINT instance with no problems.

From XP Pc however, logged in as a member of Dom Admin group, and using
local installation of SQL Enterprise tools, can add the Server SQL instance
with no problem - but adding the servername\SHAREPOINT instance fails totally.

Can this be done? Where may I be going wrong?

By default, the Sharepoint instance of MSDE is configured not to listen to the network for connections. Upgrading it to SQL probably hasn't changed this.

Use the Server Network Utility on the server to reconfigure the Sharepoint instance to listen on the network. You may need to make changes in ISA to allow access from the internal network (I can't recall off the top of my head what ISA allows from internal clients).
