Hello Sam,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
Thanks a lot for Matt's information sharing!
According to your description, I understand that you notice on the server,
the Maximum usage shows you 39 and currently you've got 35 already. You
want to know whether adding 5 more Client Access licenses on the SBS 2K3
Server will cause conflict. If I have misunderstood your concern, please
let me know.
Actually, you do not need to worry this. Please see my following
explanation:
"Maximum usage": In Server Management\Licensing, the maximum usage means
the most licenses you have had in use since the last server reboot. That
has no bearing (other that showing you if you are nearing your limit) on
the number of currently installed licenses. The Maximum usage tracks the
maximum number of users or devices are accessing the server simultaneously
by polling the licensing service on the SBS server. Note that the Maximum
usage number might not reflect the exact number of licenses in use at all
times, because the licensing service is polled periodically rather than on
an ongoing basis.
"Installed license": It means Number of licenses currently installed.
SBS 2K3 Server provides for a maximum user load of 75 as opposed to the 50
user limit in previous versions of SBS.
For licensing questions, you can also call 1-800-426-9400 (select option
4), Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. (PST) to speak directly
to a Microsoft licensing specialist.
Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing
Sites http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/index/worldwide.asp to find
contact information in their locations.
Hope this information is helpful. If you need any assistance on the SBS
server, please feel free to post back to this Newsgroup. We are glad to be
of assistance!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee
