RE: ADMT Computer migration error

Hello Sari,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

I understand that on the way to migrate the computer accounts, you got
error on three workstations. If I have misunderstood your concern, please
let me know.

>From the error message, it seems that "McsVarSetMin.dll" is being used by
another service or process. Due to complicate of the issue, please see my
following information:

1> Perform Clean Boot on the ADMT host server and the problematic
workstation. To do so:

a. Click Start->Run, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotation marks) and
click OK.

b. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click the
"Startup" tab.

c. Click to clear all the check marks from the list box under "Startup".

d. Click the Services tab, check the "Hide all Microsoft Services" box and
then click the "Disable All" button to disable the non-Microsoft services.

e. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.

f. After restarting, please check whether this issue still exists.

2> Make sure the ADMT is not loaded in Test Mode. Select "Migrate Now".

3> An important thing is when doing Migration, please ask client not to log
in workstation.

4> Ensure the account used to launch the ADMT is the one who has
Administrator permission access on both domains and the client workstation
to be migrated.

5> Can you manually move the "McsVarSetMin.dll" file from C:\Program
Files\Active Directory Migration Tool\ on the server to \\MIKE\C$\Program
Files\OnePointDomainAgent\

6> Please download the Process Explorer on your server and client
workstation to see which process is using the McsVarSetMin.dll file.

Process Explorer:

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Open Process Explorer, go to the Tool bar, click Find -> Find Handle, input
"McsVarSetMin.dll" (without quotation marks) to see what process is using
it and disable it.

7> If the issue persists, please enable Verbose ADMT log to get more
information. Here are the steps:

a. On the target DC which has ADMT 2 installed, please browse to the
following registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\ADMT\TranslationlogLevel

b. Change the Value to 7.

c. Restart the system to make the registry change take effect.

d. Try to migrate the comuter again, and when the process finishes, please
press the "View Log" button on the ADMT wizard window. It will open the
"Active Directory Migration\Tool\Logs\Migration.log" file in Notepad.
Please post the log file.

We can analyze the information to find more clues.

Hope the information above helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free
to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee
