RWW can not connect to client or server computer

I have server 2K3 std, single nic. I've configured a lot workstations and
laptops to connect to the RWW but never had a problem like this.

Just got a brand new Asus laptop and was setting it up to connect to the RWW
from outside the LAN. I can sign into the RWW ok, and OWA works ok, but when
I attempt to connect to their a client or server computer I get as far as
selecting the computer name but when I click "connect" the screen goes blank
and in the bottom left of IE I see "Error on Page".
I have added my website to the trusted sites and the certificate seems ok. I
have made sure the active x control is installed and set to prompt. I've
cleared everything in IE that I thought might have bad cached data in it.

I've tried several logins with the same results. I also verified these
logins currently work from serveral other computers so it's got to be
something on this laptop.

Software wise is comes with only basic stuff (one of the reasons I got it):
XP Pro sp2
synaptiics touchpad
windows wireless
Acrobat Reader 7.0
Asus DVD
Nero (oem)
Office 2003

any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm to the point were it's looking
faster to format C:\ than to keep troubleshooting this, but I would like to
know "why" if I can.
