RE: Backup SBS2k3sp1 Tape

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi wade,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

>From your problem description, I understand this issue to be: you can
backup the SBS server by SBS backup wizard, but the verifying process of
backup fails to finish. If I have misunderstood your concerns, please do
not hesitate to let me know.

To narrow down the problem, I would like to collect following information
and troubleshoot for you.

1. We may try manually running the NTBACKUP Utility as following:

1) Click Start and Run.
2) Input Ntbackup and click ok.
3) In Backup Utility page, click Backup Wizard.
4) Select the file you want to backup manually and click Start Backup.
5) In Backup Job Information page, click Advanced.
6) You may select to verify to see if the issue occurs and not select
verify and try again.

2. Please test the backup to local drive and let me know the result. It can
let us know if there is anything wrong with backup components.
3. Have you tried using a new backup tape? On occasion, a tape will go bad
or have bad sectors.
4. Please gather the latest NTbackup, SBS Backuprunner logs and Application
log, compress them to a ZIP file, and then send it to me at
v-crinal@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for analysis:

1) Application, System logs around time of failure

2) The Backupxx.log files in the folder 'C:\Documents and Settings\SBS
Backup User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
NT\NTBackup\data'.

Note: Before reproduce the problem, please open NTBACKUP, click
"Tools"->"Options" and then check "Detailed" on the "Backup Log" tab. Then
reproduce this issue and send the backup log to me (Tools->Report).

3) The Sbsbackuplog0x.log files which can be located under the folder
'%sbsprogramdir%\Support\Backup Logs'.

know.

I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

| I have a new SBS2k3 SP1 server that has a backup problem. I used the
wizard
| to setup backup. It runs and does the backup but fails to verify. I have
a
| dat tape drive.
| I had a similar problem on a similar server when I upgraded to SP1. The
| problem on that server was solved by rolling the driver back to the one
| installed with W2K3, 4mmdat.sys.
|
| This computer was built with SP1 built into the load so there is nothing
to
| roll back to.
|
| Any ideas?
|
| thanks, wade
