RE: Install.INS - Proxy Enabled

Hi Paul,

Thanks for posting here!

The Install.ins file contains the configuration settings for Internet
Explorer on the client. At setup time, this file is configured so that the
server name is passed in to the %sbsserver% variable in the original
Install.ins template file. In addition, this file is customized so that the
enumerated links are based on the selection of a server side component. For
example, if Exchange is not installed, the link My E-mail will not be
available. If Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server is not
installed, Proxy settings are not configured in the file. For more
information about Install.ins, please refer to Client Configuration.

Once the client is joined to the domain by Network Configuration, and all
the applications are installed by Application Deployment, the next step is
automating the configuration of the applications and operating systems by
Client Configuration. This includes setting the IE LAN Settings, creating
an Outlook profile, enabling the Remote Desktop feature, and installing
Connection Manager and ActiveSync?, etc. Next time the users log on, they
are ready to browse the Internet through the server, open their Outlook to
send and receive e-mail, and connect to the server from a remote location.

This Client Configuration feature is running as part of the Application
Deployment. Therefore, it won't execute if the client doesn't pass the
pre-installation checks by Application Deployment. This feature functions
only on computers running Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional. If there
is no software to deploy to the client, the client configuration will still
execute during the logon script, but the user interface will be hidden.

IE is configured to point to the server, and favorites are added by
applying \\%sbsserver%\clients\setup\install.ins to the client. run the
following command can reset a client's IE settings back to default, the
command is:

rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,BrandInternetExplorer /ins:"path to install.ins"

Hope above information helps! if you have any further concern or question
on the issue please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to your
reply!

Have a nice day!

Best Regards,

Jenny Wu
