RE: DNS some IIS 6 websites don't resolve internally

Hello CVP,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

I understand that your domain clients cannot access some websites you setup
on IIS from LAN, but from the Internet clients can access them. If I have
misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

Based on my experience, this issue most possibly is caused by if there is
no CNAME created. Please see my following suggestions:

1> Check CNAME. To do so, please see:

a. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Administrative Tools -> DNS.

b. Expand to DNS\Yourdomain\Forward Lookup Zones\Yourdomain.local.

c. On the right pane, check whether you have created Alias (CNAME) for
these Websites.

d. If you have not created yet, please right click on the right pane,
select New Alias (CNAME), and fill in the information inside.

We can refer to the Companyweb as a successful example. Companyweb also is
created by host header and it listens on TCP port 80, SSL port 444. We can
find there is a CNAME record for Companyweb in the DNS Management.

2> After you applied the steps above and if the issue persists, please help
to gather the following information for further troubleshooting:

a. Inside the LAN, if you use the same URL as your access from the
Internet, will this issue occur?

b. On one of the client workstations in LAN, can you Ping the web site Host
Header? If this client workstation cannot ping, try another client
workstation, can all client workstations ping or some of them can?

c. You mentioned that "I have a feeling somehow ¡.. in DNS management
correctly", please make sure that you input the SBS 2K3 Server internal IP
address in the Host(A) records.

d. On the server, run "eventvwr" (without quotation marks), check whether
there is any error, if yes, double click it, click the Copy button and
paste the full content to the Newsgroup.

e. Repeat step 1> a - b, and capture a screen shot for this window.

I am appreciated your time! if anything is unclear, please feel free to let
me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee
