RE: SBS2003 Standard Server Cannot Access Webpages.

Hi:
Thanks for posting here.

>From your description, I understand that your SBS server cannot browser web
site but the internal workstations are working fine. If I am off base,
please feel free to let me know.

It seems that your SBS Server only has one network card, can I assume that
10.0.0.1 is the internal IP address of the hardware router?

Before we go any further, I would suggest you refer to this step-by-step
article to re-run the CEICW Wizard in order to make sure the internet
connection is properly configured. (Follow the "Internal or single network
adapter configuration" section)

825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763

After finishing the CEICW Wizard, please go to the DNS Server and
configured the DNS Forwarder to point to the IP address of your ISP instead
of the local router. In this way, does it work?

To narrow down the issue, could you do me a favor and collect the following
information:
1. Do you have ISA 2000 installed on your SBS Server?

2. On the SBS server side, go to the command prompt, type NSLOOKUP and
enter www.microsoft.com, does the name resolution work? (I notice that you
said "Both simple and recursive DNS queries pass", just make a
confirmation.)

3. Please type ipconfig/flushdns on the server side to flush the DNS Cache.

4. Go to a healthy client computer, type ipconfig/all and send the output
to me in the reply.

5. If you have any third-party antivirus software installed on the SBS
Server, please temporarily disable it. Please also try performing a clean
boot, a Clean Boot will allow us to isolate any device drivers or programs
that are loading at startup that may be causing a conflict with other
device drivers or programs that are installed in your computer.

A. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks)
and click OK.
B. Select "Selective Startup" and remove the check box for "Load Startup
Items".
C. On the "Services" tab, click Enable All.
D. Check "Hide all Microsoft Services", click Disable All and clear "Hide
all Microsoft Services".
E. Click the OK button and then Click Yes to restart your computer.

6. Please double check if the IE browser is using web proxy service. Click
Tools->Internet Options, go to the Connections tab, click LAN Settings,
make sure the option "Use a proxy server for your LAN" is unchecked.

7. To make it clear whether the browser is working fine, please try using
another web browser such as Firefox and see if the problem persists.

8. Check the router to see if the traffic originated from the SBS Server is
blocked by the hardware router.

9. At last please help to confirm if all the internet web sites cannot be
accessed from the SBS Server.

I look forward to your update. Thank you for your time and patience.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a nice day! :)

Best Regards
Edward Tian(MSFT)

| Several Rebuilds later and I stand stumped.
|
| My server cannot access websites, yet clients using it as their DNS seem
to
| be working fine. On the server I can ping addresses www.google.ca, no
| response but resolution is working. Also if I enter browse
| http://www.google.com or http://216.239.57.104 I get the same response.
|
| "The page cannot be displayed"
|
| Again clients can use this machine as their DNS and get out without
issue.
| The internet connection wizard has been run. Still no results.
