RE: add outlook to Client install

HI,

Thanks for using SBS newsgroup.

Issue description:
============

I understand that you want to install outlook 2003 on the client computer
via assign application to client computer wizard, but you encountered some
error to install it.

Analyzing and suggestions:
============

Generally speaking, we recommend push the outlook 2003 to client computer
by wizard automatically, we do not recommend you manually add the outlook
2003 application to the wizard. In order to make the issue more clear,
please refer to my suggestion below:

1. Could you test to see if you can install the outlook directly on the
client computer by navigating to
\\servername\clientapps\outlook2003\setup.exe
2. As I know, by default the outlook 2003 will be pushed automatically, I
think you have remove the outlook directly from some of assign client
application wizard before, now you only add the installation files to the
wizard. Please refer to my steps below to reconfigure that wizard:
A. Please navigate to Add/Remove in the control panel.
B. Choose Windows Small Business server 2003.
C. Choose maintains for server tools then select to remove only client
deployments, please note that you do not need to select remove IE and
outlook 2003.
D. Then reproduce the steps to reinstall the client deployments.
E. Run the assign client application wizard again to push the outlook 2003
to client computer again.
F. Logon back to client computer, the system will automatically push the
outlook 2003 to client computer.

Please note that you do not need to remove the application that has already
been installed on the client computer from the list.

Hope the above information helpful, please feel free to let me know, if you
have any further concern, I am glad to help you.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| When I first set up my sbs2003 server it added outlook to every client.
I
| had some users that didn't want to change from outlook 2000, so I removed
| 2003 from the client apps list. Now I need to reverse that so that
Outlook
| 2003 does install. I tried using the wizard, but with my first install I
got
| an icon on the client that said install outlook2003. When I clicked on
it,
| it says The command ""\\servername\clientapps\outlook2003\outls11msi""
failed
| to run. Please make sure the server name, path and executibale are
valid. I
| usually install all of office 2003 so I really don't care if outlook
doesn't
| install during the client set-up, but I read that outlook has to be in
the
| client apps when you install sp1 or you get an error message.
|
| Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
