Re: Access denied on directory and I'm owner

Hi Crina,

Many thanks for your respons, I tried your suggestion without any luck
so far.

He is the information you asked for:

1. Does the situation occur on SBS or client computer?
The problem occurs on my SBS 2003 SP1

2. What is the problematic folder? Can you post a screen shot to
newsgroup?
The problem begins in "C:\Program Files\Panda Software\Panda
Administrator 3\AdminServer", which is a folder of my Panda Antivirus
software. But that software is totally shut down since I installed SP1,
that is already a couple of weeks because I needed to renew my
antivirus subscription. And maybe I need to mention that I was unable
to login on my SBS if I booted the machine with the antivirus services
set to automatically after installing SP1. Therefore I wanted to
reinstall Panda, but the uninstall did not succeed also... That's why
this folder is still there, and maybe that's why I had so many problems
with my Antivirus, and now I'm unable to install Panda again because
the installation cannot write in that directory...

The strange thing is that I can rename the folder "Panda Administrator
3" and then I can access the problematic subfolder without changing the
security. If I then rename again to the original foldername or if I
create a new folder with that name, then if I want to create the folder
"AdminServer", I got an access denied. It's like Windows is not
allowing to access a certain path... Is there something in Windows that
could prevent me from doing that?

By the way, how do I post a screenshot to a newsgroup? (I'm using
Google groups to post messages...)

3. Are there any errors regarding the issue?
No, just the access denied, and not being able to install Panda again.

I already tried all kinds of security settings, but if I copy the
security settings from the parent directory "Panda Administrator 3"
with the "Replace permissions entries on all child objects with entries
shown here that apply to child obects" in the Advanced Security window,
then I see that it copies the user Administrator without any right to
the subfolder "AdminServer", to other subfolders everything is fine.
That is very strange, I think. Anyway, if I add rights to
Administrator, or if I try with another user, I always get access
denied.
And if I want to delete Administrator, it gives a popup that this is
inherited. In the advanced security, I also see the user Administrator
but there with all the rights (??) and that it should be inherited from
C:\Program Files, but Administrator is not defined there... So I
disable the inheritance and delete it, but still access denied...
although the group Administrators has full rights of course.

Any suggestions are welcome...

Thanks,
Bert
