Q. I want to have additional Windows-based servers in my Windows Small
Business Server 2003 domain. Do I need CALs for those servers?
A. Your Windows Small Business Server 2003 CALs cover you for any additional
Windows-based servers in the domain. You do not need to buy additional CALs
for them.

I just called Microsoft's licensing department to get clarification, because
some people tell me that each additional server consumes one SBS CAL per
server. According to Microsoft, they are wrong. SBS user and device CALs are
only needed for users and devices other than additional servers. There are
no server-to-server CALs needed.

If they buy 30 SBS 2003 CALs, they can have 30 users or
workstations/SmartPhones/other devices, plus an unlimited number of servers,
whether NT4/2000/2003 member servers or 2000/2003 domain controllers. The
Microsoft licensing person said that you could have 150 additional servers
if you wanted them.
