I'm at a complete loss here. It seems that it's not the firewall because of
the 2k box, and not ISA because of OE. I'm with you on the fact that this
started at SP1 install, but I really don't see how it can be SP1 related on
something that effects Outlook but not OE.
IIRC there's a way to open the properties of the POP connection in Outlook
and do a test of the connection. That should give you an idea of where the
process is failing - it may even point you to the exact issue. I'm sure
you've verified that the pop server information is entered exactly the same
in Outlook as it is in the OE connection that works? Can you ping the pop
server from the workstation?
Another thing I'd try is to create a new mail profile from scratch to see if
it'll work then. And, make sure Outlook is fully patched by running Office
Update or Microsoft Update on the machine.
