RE: I cannot web browse or reach microsoft updates on my SBS2003

Dear Shaun:
Thanks for your update!

I notice that your workstation has pointed its DNS Servers to both
192.168.1.70 and 192.168.1.1, although this configuration may not cause the
issue, I suggest you configure the workstation to use only 192.168.1.70 as
its DNS Server. If you use DHCP service to assign the DNS server address,
you can go to dhcpmgmt.msc, change the DNS Servers address from Scope
Options\006 DNS Servers.

I look forward to your update in regard of my first reply on 08/29. For
your convenience, I attach the original reply as following:

Thank you for your update! :)

I notice that your SBS box has only one network card, then can I assume
your network diagram as following:

Router------SBS Server
|
|___Workstations

Since you can ping the router without any difficulties, please try the
following steps to make sure whether the DNS resolution is working.
1. Re-run CEICW Wizard and strickly follow the KB article (Internal or
single network adapter configuration):

825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763

2. Make sure the IP address of the ISP's DNS server is configured as the
DNS forwarder in DNS Server.

3. On the SBS server, open the command prompt, type "nslookup" (without
quotation mark). Is the Default DNS server successfully listed?
Then type www.microsoft.com, can the URL be resolved to the proper IP
address?

If the URL failed to resolve to the IP address. Please go to Network
Connections, double click the network card, manually change the DNS server
address from 192.168.1.70 to your ISP's DNS server address.

4. I suggest you apply the SBS 2003 SP1 and re-run CEICW wizard after the
upgrade.

5. Can you tell me what changes have you made before the server stop
working? If there is any 3rd-party antivirus software installed on the
server, please temporarily disable it.

6. If the problem persists, let's perform a Clean Boot on the problematic
server. A Clean Boot will allow us to isolate any device drivers or
programs that are loading at startup that may be causing a conflict with
other device drivers or programs that are installed in your computer.

A. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks)
and click OK.
B. Select "Selective Startup" and remove the check box for "Load Startup
Items".
C. On the "Services" tab, click Enable All.
D. Check "Hide all Microsoft Services", click Disable All and clear "Hide
all Microsoft Services".
E. Click the OK button and then Click Yes to restart your computer.
F. Then, on the SBS server, can you access the internet?

7. Please send me the whole System and Application event log (.evt) to my
mailbox for further analysis: v-edtian@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hope the above information helps. I understand that the issue has brought
you a lot of inconvenience. I appreciate your patience and cooperation.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Have a nice day! :)
