Hi,

I know this is not really on-topic here but since this is one of the most frequented ng's I use, I thought I might ask it here.

At the moment I am using OE6 to read the ng's. I have quite a few topics marked that I find very interesting, even if I haven't participated in them, just nice to know some stuff some people have experienced.
The topics I have marked are apparantly disappearing from the server one by one. I started saving them to disk, but it's a bit tediuos and I would like to know what othere people here do to save interesting topics, just for future reference.

This is a long-standing "feature" of OE. If the messages drop off the server, OE will drop them too.

You can copy them to another folder, or switch to a real newsreader.

There are lots of newsreaders out there, many free, and the one that I like (which happens to look quite similar to OE) is called XanaNews, and is available from http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/delphi.htm.

Some others are:

* Forte Agent
* Thunderbird
* MicroPlanet Gravity
* Opera

Although I'm using Thunderbird at the moment, I actually think that OE is often unfairly maligned and has many advantages. Although Thunderbird can read *some* yenc files on some of the binary groups I frequent, it won't do multi-part binaries and the filtering/killfiling doesn't seem to work properly. Also, if you've viewed a picture in the preview pane, and double-click to see it in its own window, it seems to pointlessly download the picture again. The best thing about Thunderbird, though, is its ability to handle RSS feeds. I reckon if OE had RSS (and maybe atom) support, and could view yenc-encoded files, it would be perfect. Add RSS enclosure support (podcasting), and you've got a killer app.
