Dear Dodge:
Thank you for posting here.
ISA Server 2004 and AOL9.0 can be configured to work together. The
following article this document provides a walk-through of the required
steps:
How to Use America Online 9.0 with ISA Server 2004
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/isa/2004/plan/aol.mspx
1. Is firewall client installed on the workstation? Actually this is a
known problem with AOL to work through ISA server. AOL cannot work with
Firewall Client and we have to disable it.
2. Can I assume that you cannot browse any web pages through AOL? Can you
access the same web page using IE?
3. Does this problem occur on all client computers?
If the problem persists, please try the following steps:
Step 1:
1. Start the ISA Server Management tool.
2. Expand ServerName, where ServerName is the name of your ISA Server
computer, and then click Firewall Policy.
3. Click the Tasks tab, and then click Create New Access Rule.
4. In the Access rule name box, type a descriptive name for the access
rule, and then click Next.
5. Click Allow, click Next, leave the All outbound protocols option
selected in the This rule applies to list, and then click Next.
6. On the Access Rule Sources page, click Add.
7. Expand Networks, click Internal to allow all users who are connected to
the internal network to gain access to the Internet, click Add, click
Close, and then click Next.
8. Click Add, expand Networks, click External to allow users to gain access
to the external network, click Add, click Close, and then click Next.
9. Leave the default option of All Users in the This rule applies to
requests from the following user sets box. Click Next, and then click
Finish. (Or you can define specific users who need to use AOL.)
10. Click Apply to save your changes and to update the firewall policy.
Click OK.
Then, open ISA2004 Management Console, in the left panel, expand to
Configuration->Networks. Under "Networks panel", double click "Internal".
Switch to "Web Proxy" panel, click "Authentication?". Uncheck the "Require
all users to authenticate" option.
Can you use AOL to browser webpage this time?
I appreciate your time and understanding. Please feel free to let me know
if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a nice day! :)
Best Regards
Edward Tian(MSFT)

| Hi posting this in SBS as SBS setups pre-configure a lot of ISA - and I'm
| pretty sure someone's installed ISA '04 in SBS 2K3 that wants to allow
AOL
| (9SE) to work behind ISA. I did find and followed instructions in Tech
Net
| about configuring - but although we can sign into AOL and send and
retrieve
| emails - browsing webpages brings up a blank page - sometimes with an *
in
| top corner. Before the attempt to configure ISA... not even blank pages
would
| come up. There must be a way! Thanks in advance.
