RE: "connect to my computer......" & RWW still slow!!! please help

Dear Tammy:
Thank you for your update.

I am sorry to hear that the problem persists. The issue turns to be more
tough. We may need to perform a deep investigation on it. Since the
performance is perfect when you directly RDP to the Server from a remote
client, please help to perform the following test (use a domain admin
account):
1. From a remote client, RDP to the server, then try moving a file (about
1MB size) from the remote client to the SBS server.

2. From the same remote client, RWW/RDP to the server (Connect to Server
Desktops), then try moving the same file again.

Can you find the difference of speed behavior between these two steps?

In addition, after I consulted with our ISA support engineer, we suspect
that ISA2k4 may cause the performance decrease. To make sure whether ISA is
the root cause, if possible, could you temporarily disable the ISA service
and then connect a client computer directly to the external NIC of the ISA
server and test again?

If it's not proper to disable ISA service for some reasons, please help me
gather the ISA log for analysis:
1) Schedule a down time.

2) Open ISA 2004 management console.

3) Expand the server node and highlight 'Monitoring'.

4) In the right pane, switch to the 'Logging' tab, make sure the 'Task
Pane' is showed there.

5) In the 'Task Pane', click 'Configure Firewall Logging' under 'Logging
Tasks', and then switch the 'log storage format' from 'MSDE database'
(default) to 'File'.

6) Switch to the 'Fields' tab, click 'Select All', and then click OK.

7) In the 'Task Pane', click 'Configure Web Proxy Logging' under 'Logging
Tasks', and then switch the 'log storage format' from 'MSDE database'
(default) to 'File'.

8) Switch to the 'Fields' tab, click 'Select All', and then click OK.

9) Click 'Apply' to save changes and update the configuration.

10) Temporarily disable the Firewall service. To do that, please click
Monitoring | Services tab, and then right click 'Microsoft Firewall' to
choose 'Stop'.

11) Clear the current existing W3C logs. To do that, go to the log saving
directory and clean any existing .W3C logs. By default, the logs will be
saved to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server\ISALogs'. (Some MDF may not
be able to deleted, that's normal.) You may backup them first and then
delete them.

12) Go back to the ISA 2004 management console, and then Start the stopped
'Microsoft Firewall' service.

13) Reproduce the problem(access RWW/RDP either from a remote client or
from a client computer directly connected to the external NIC of the SBS
box), stop the service, and then gather the resulting W3C files to me for
analysis.

14) Please also let me know the IP address of the testing clients so that I
can filter the data.
You can send the log file directly to my mailbox: v-edtian@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I appreciate your time and understanding!

Have a nice day. :)

Best Regards
Edward Tian(MSFT)

| Hi Edward,
|
| Now for this recommendation, I want the CEICW Wizard last night and
| unfortunately nothing has changed. The performance is still quite slow.
| Other users actually complained about it this weekend - 3 people - as
various
| times - were working on the weekend which is quite rare but again rules
out
| it being a problem with the remote users PC, etc. Again, even after
hanging
| a laptop off the switch (DMZ) and the user connecting to it and then
doing
| the RWW from there, the performance was no different I'm sorry to report.

| I've also noticed some lag in the performance while on the server today.
|
| I thank you again for your assistance with this and look forward to any
| other "magical" solutions/recommendations you might have. I am totally
| stumped on this one! I don't see anything obviously wrong with the
server
| but could this be a problem with IIS or some other RWW related issue on
the
| server. I am fairly new to SBS - well it's been installed since last
fall -
| and just not sure where to look on this one.
|
| Again, thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply. Please
| note that I will be out of the office the next few days and back on
Friday.
|
| Regards,
| Tammy :-)
