Re: still struggling with DHCP..please help

Hi Rick,

Welcome to SBS newsgroup.

Issue description:
==========

I understand that you encountered some problem in DHCP services on SBS 2000
domain.

Analyzing and suggestions:
==========

Generally speaking, SBS domain only allow one DHCP server enable for one
subnet or it might cause some interruption. From your description, it seems
you have already disable the DHCP other than SBS 2000, so the DHCP services
might be able to run well on SBS 2000 server. In order to make the issue
more clearly, please help gather the information below:

1. Run Ipconfig /all at the client side and server side to paste the
results to newsgroup.
2. Check the event view on SBS 2000 to see if there is any related error
event paste them to newsgroup.
3. Please also run ICW wizard on SBS 2000 to reconfigure your network
setting, please make sure that DHCP and DNS is configure properly on SBS
2000, you can refer to the KB article below to configure it:

More info:

Business

We appreciate your understanding on this issue; please follow my steps to
check your client setting and paste the results as your convenience. It's
my pleasure to be of further assistance.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| If I'm reading you right, the external device is no longer doing DHCP,
and
| the SBS DHCP service is running. Machines with active IPs are getting
| renewed normally. If that's right, I take it to mean that the SBS is
doing
| DHCP normally, and the problem is on the workstations.
|
| I'd start here: If these are XP desktops, I'd go to control
panel/network.
| R-click the Local Area Connection and click Repair. If they're not XP
| boxes, see this KB, which lists the commands run by the Repair option in
XP.
| Open a cmd window and run the commands manually.
|
| If that works, change the admin password on the external device, call the
| wonk a nasty name, and tell him that the #1 rule of computing is, if it
| ain't broke, don't fix it. If it doesn't work, please post back.
|
| And, please don't crosspost.
