Here's the problem - the View Files interface I described earlier is the way
to access the files. If you can't access them there, you may have some
limited ability to recover them but it won't be easy. The files in the CSC
folder (client-side cache) are named by the system and controlled by a dat
file or some other mysterious method, so you can't just access them that way
very easily. It'll be difficult or impossible to even figure out the file
types or what app to open them with.
To view the CSC directly, you have to go to Windows Explorer and click
Tools -> Options. On the View tab, clear the check box in "Hide protected
operating system files."
Why can't you just log into the server as admin and move or copy the files
to a location that's accessible to the user? If you can't access the cached
files in View Files, trying to recover them from the workstation is going to
be a grind at best. I'd try accessing them directly on the server,
restoring from backup, or checking shadow copies. Or if the original user
still exists in AD, create a profile for him on a different workstation. He
should be able to access the server files from there.
