Re: Understanding WSUS

I understand the concept, I really do. I am sure this is a learning curve as
I have used Shavlik and UpdateExpert without any issues. I have pretty much
done what you state by following those directions.
This is the part I don't understand:

When I go to WSUS the home page shows this: "Updates needed by computers 49"
and below that is shows "Computers needing updates 17". If I click the link
up at the top right (where home, update, reports, computers, options are)
called Updates, I change the view to show All Updates and in the list in the
Approval column is shows Detect only. I can click on the left, Change
approval and choose Install. Is this bogus info or do I need to go to each
update and change them from Detect only to Install?

If I go into Reports and view the status to Needed for the workstations, it
shows quite a bit needed. Why isn't WSUS installing them on the
workstations?
If I go to Computers and view Workstations and click the status on a
computer it shows the Approval as Detect Only and Status on several critical
updates as needed. It has been several days since I set this up.

Any help of clearer explanation would be great,
Rick F
