RE: Where does SBS store its client updates?

Hi,

Some additional information:

1. You could rerun "Assign application to client computer wizard" on SBS
server, in the wizard you will find there is a list of computer, please
remove all the XP clients from the list.
2. Log off the client computer and logon again.
3. You will not receive any notification for XP deployments.

Please note that if all the client computer are XP based, you might not
remove all the client computer from the list or the wizard will not run.

We have a workaround for this issue, you can create a computer in the
client computer. (only a false computer, then you can only assign
application to that computer, of course SBS will not apply any application
to that computer as there are no such computer) Then you can finish the
wizard.

Hope the above information helpful. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| Hi,
|
| Thanks for updates.
|
| I am sorry to hear that SP2 have bring you some inconvenience, as we did
| recommend to install SP2 on XP clients, so there is no way to remove it
| from the client application. You have to remove it manually after install
| it on clients. So in that way you will receive no notification for SP2
| after this.
|
| Thanks for your understanding.

| | Charles,
| |
| | Thanks for your reply. However, as I've indicated, I've had bad
| experiences
| | trying to install XP SP2 on older machines. It invariably "breaks" the
| | operating system, necessitating a complete, clean reinstall. I see no
| | benefits from XP SP2, as it is primarily designed to secure a
home-based
| PC,
| | not proteced by a seperate industrial grade firewall.
| |
| | I would like to stop SBS trying to install this software, if at all
| | possible. I have plans to progressively install the software anyway,
| | manually when I can be sure that the system(s) concerned have been
backed
| up
| | and they can be taken out of the production environment to have the
time
| | required spent on it. With MS forcing this upgrade upon my network, I
| can be
| | assured of neither. At the moment, I can only advise my users to
refuse
| any
| | installs undertaken by the SBS system and this does not inspire
| confidence in
| | either me or the OS.
| |
| | [rant mode on]
| | I find, as usual with a great deal about how Microsoft conducts its
| | business, this aspect of its upgrade path fascistic and paternalistic.
I
| | know a great deal more about my network than they do, yet they feel
they
| can
| | inflict upon me how I must maintain and upgrade it to some mythical
| standard
| | that they believe in. I wish for once those buggers would get out of
| their
| | ivory tower into the real world and see how much trouble their
decisions
| | cause.
| | [/rant mode off]
