Can A be pinged from elsewhere on the network? Does A seem to be responding
normally everywhere except from B? Can you browse from B to A through my
network places -> entire network -> microsoft windows network?
I'm not sure why I'd expect this, but I'm wondering if it can be some
hardware thing - switch port? It seems like there's no physical
connection - B gets A's IP from DNS, but gets no response to the ping from
that IP. Blaming hardware doesn't explain why A can ping B but not the
other way around, but I'd take a second to move some plugs around just in
case of some kind of unexplained weirdness on the switch. Why I'm wondering
about hardware is, if it was a setting on A, or something like a firewall,
it seems like there'd be a password prompt, or something other than just no
response.
I did read the ipconfig results - they're pretty much identical as you
know - nothing jumps out that would explain this.
