RE: extending data partitions & my documents redirection

Hello Param,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

I understand that you want to extend your data partition and configure My
Document Redirection on your SBS 2K3 server. If I have misunderstood your
concern, please let me know.

Please take your time to read my following information:

1> For Disk Manager issue:

If you want to extent the partition, you need to meet the following two
conditions:

a. It is a dynamic disk.

b. All of the three partitions must have unallocated free space.

For more detailed information, please see:

323442 HOW TO: Use the Disk Management Snap-in to Manage Basic and Dynamic
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=323442

2> For My Document Redirection:

The way to configure My Document Redirection for all domain clients is
totally different from configure to some of the domain clients.

1. To redirect all domain clients' My Document folders, you just go to
Server Management\Standard Management\Shares (Local). Click the Configure
My Documents Redirection and select the first option "Redirect all My
Document folders to the default shared for users on the Small Business
Server".

a. Next time when these clients log off and log on their workstations, My
Document folders will be redirected. The default shared folder on the Small
Business Server is \\Yourdomain\Users\%USERNAME%\My Documents

b. Go to Group Policy Management\Forest\Domains\Yourdomain.local\Group
Policy Objects. You will find there is a new GPO named "Small Business
Server Folder Redirection" created after you run the Configure My Documents
Redirection wizard.

2. To redirect some domain clients' My Document folders, you need to create
a GPO manually and link this GPO to specific clients. To do so, please see:

a. Go to Group Policy Management\Forest\Domains\Yourdomain.local\Group
Policy Objects. Right click Group Policy Objects, select New, and name the
New GPO. For example, Test. Click OK.

b. Right click Test, and select Edit.

c. Expand to Test Policy\User Configuration\Windows Settings\Folder
Redirection\My Documents.

d. Right click My Documents, go to Properties.

e. On the Target tab, select the setting as Basic - Redirect everyone's
folder to the same location.

f. Target folder location is Create a folder for each user under the root
path.

g. Root Path is \\Yourdomain\Users. You can click Browse to select the root
path. It is under My Network Places\Entire Network\Microsoft Windows
Network\Yourdomain\Yourserver\Users.

h. Go to Settings tab, check the boxes "Grant the user exclusive rights to
My Documents" and "Move the contents of My Documents to the new location".

i. Policy Removal is "Leave the folder in the new location when policy is
removed".

j. My Pictures Preferences is "Make My Pictures a subfolder of My
Documents".

k. Click OK. Close the Group Policy Object Editor window.

l. Go to Group Policy
Management\Forest\Domains\Yourdomain.local\MyBusiness\Users\SBSUsers.

m. Right click SBSUsers, select New Organization Unit and input the name.
For example, Testing.

n. Move those clients who you want to configure My Document Redirection
from OU SBSUsers to OU Testing.

o. Link the GPO Test to the new OU Testing.

p. Go to Start -> Run, type "gpupdate" (without quotation marks) then this
new group policy will be applied.

Hope this information helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free to
let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee
