Server Down

Hi.
Need some help.

On boot get lsass.exe "When trying to update a password the return
status indicates the value provided as the current password is not correct"
and system reboots. Same situation in safe mode.

Do not believe to be virus related - virus defs have been kept upto date and
we have a second partial install of SBS which boots ok and from which we have
run Symantec sasser check - ok.

Is my only option to restore the system state?

Background info leading up to problem - In order to update to Exchange SP1
had to unistall antivirus software MWTI Escan and Mailscan. Installed
Mailscan (Exchange mail antivirus) and ran system for 2 days. Yesterday
installed Escan (server file av) and server would sit at "Applying computer
settings" (not hung as could move mouse but went no further in 10 mins)
Thought this could be Escan related
(other recent probs make it easy to blame) so booted into safe mode and
uninstalled.

Problem persisted - various web articles suggested that this could be caused
by
out of date APC powerchute (not using) or Exchange. Booted into safe mode,
ran msconfig and stopped all services on the basis of allowing some at a
time to identify source of problem, rebooted ok.

Ran msconfig again to allow some services but refused to allow me to change
settings advising I needed to be on account with administrator priveliges, I
was.

Reboot again ran MSconfig again and allowed all services this time allowed ok.

Reboot and now get lsass.exe "When trying to update a password the return
status indicates the value provided as the current password is not correct"
and system reboots. Same situation in safe mode.

I have a full daily back-up tapes that include system state plus a separate
tape with system state from 6 months ago with floppy to go with it, changes
have been made to system in that time including service and security patches,
EXch SP1 and new versions of antivirus software.

Thanks

.
