Re: Client kills Internet Connection on entire network

Never assume that the NIC card that the connection is going out through is bulletproof.

Drivers
Throttle it
Change it out

Then there are the routers and switches.

I am running SBS2003 and windows XP on 5 clients with 4 users. We have been experiencing random loss of internet connectivity. All clients and the server lose connection. However we have a wifi access point on a perimeter network at it STILL has internet connection (so we ruled out the cable modem, ISP, or router). Also when internet connection is lost, all other network functions remain (share, etc..)

The only way to restore connection is via a SBS total restart. This has been very frustrating and we could not determine what was causing it. Today I discovered that one client was running Windows Media Player 10 and playing an MSN internet radio station. We lost connection and did a server restart, internet came back when the user tried to restart the music it killed the connection. We repeated the procedure and it killed it again. However we have had these random internet losses even when no clients are using Windows Media Player.

Any ideas on the cause or how to prevent this? I cannot remote access the server to do a restart when internet connection is lost, which means driving to the office every time this happens (makes for a short weekend and lost sleep!)
