RE: Logon window issues

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi Dave,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

>From your description, I understand you get the error page which has been
displayed in the http://www.wykofka.com/sbs/sbs.jpg when you access SBS
2003 server through RDP locally after you have encountered an email worm.
If I have misunderstood your concerns, please do not hesitate to let me
know.

We may try the following steps to see if the problem can be solved:

1. please check the options button the remote desktop connection, then go
to the experience tab and deselect "Bitmap Caching".
2. Increased the MTU size by adding the "EnablePMTUBHDetect" Reg_Dword with
a value 1 in the:

HKLM\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters Registry key.

If the problem still persists, please help me collect the following
information:

1. Are there any error messagers when you encountered the problem?
2. You can verify connectivity by pinging from the client to Terminal
Services, and from Terminal Services to the client by IP address. If you
are connecting to Terminal Services by IP, verify that you can ping by name
as well. If you can ping successfully, go to step 2. If pinging fails,
verify the IP configuration information of Terminal Services, and the
client to be sure that it is correct, and that Terminal Services, or the
client are capable of finding the path to each other. To do so, you may
have to verify routing information on Terminal Services, and/or correct
default gateways on both the client and Terminal Services.

3. You can try pinging by using a fixed packet size of 1472 bytes with the
Don't Fragment bit set. This represents the largest Internet Control
Message Protocol (ICMP) packet that can be sent. This varies depending on
the media that is involved.

ping -l 1472 -f <IP address>

If this does not work, try using smaller, and smaller numbers in the ping
command until you receive a response. The size that you used to receive a
response is the maximum size packet that is allowed over the network, which
the client and/or Terminal Services are traversing.

4. If the packet size that you were able to ping with was smaller than the
maximum packet size for the network, it may be necessary to configure
Terminal Services and/or the client. For detailed information, please refer
to the following KB articles:

274805 Error Message: Terminal Server Has Ended the Connection
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=274805

323497 "The RDP Protocol Component "DATA ENCRYPTION" Detected an Error..."
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=323497

If it still does not work, the problem may be caused by the files or
components have been corrupted by the worm. You may need to reinstall the
components or restore the system.

Hope the information help and I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)
