Hi Rick,
Thanks for posting here!
For your description, I understand that the issue is: client computers can
not access the share files on SBS server and the clients failed to resolve
each other by computer name.If i am off base, please don't hesitate to let
me know.
Regarding the issue, please help me by collecting the following information
for research:
1. Is it your network topology:
Remote Clients <----> Router <----> Internet <----> Router <----> SBS
Server <----> Switch <----> SBS Clients
2. What is your server OS? Window 2003 or SBS 2003?
3. Can you VPN into the SBS 2003 server from the Internal client computers?
Can they access share files on server when they VPN into server?
4. Are the computers you are trying to connect to the SBS 2003 server
through VPN behind a firewall (on a LAN)? Can a computer connect directly to
the Internet connect to the SBS 2003 server?
5. Do you have ISA installed on the SBS server?
6. How many network adapters do you have on the SBS server?
7. Can you access the share files through inputing "\\ip\sharefilename" in
command line?
8. Please paste follow computers ipconfig /all results in the newsgroup:
Before turn on VPN: remote computer; sbs server; sbs client;
After VPN to server: remote computer; sbs server; sbs client;
As for you can not connect each other using computer name, please check
domain clients DNS and Wins settings. For a domain member, the DNS entry in
the workstation TCP/IP properties should always points to the server IP
address.
I appreciate your time and efforts to test. I am curently standing by to
wait for you update. I want to how it is going in your end. I am always
happy of be assistance of you!
Have a nice day!
Best Regards,
Jenny Wu
