RE: Messenger Audio/Video with ISA 2004

Dear Bernie:
One supplument: By following the steps in my previous reply, Audio/Video
function in MSN6.2 will work.(If external user initiate the request) And we
still do not have a perfect solution on ISA2004.
I do understand your concerns and frustration on this solution.
Technically, this is because of MSN Messenger 6.X's design instead of ISA
server. Any NAT firewall without strong SIP support will experience this
issue. MSN Messenger 6.X uses SIP for audio conversation. This protocol
needs to report the IP address back to the SIP server and the server will
provide this information to another client to allow it to initiate the
connection. As this client is behind the ISA server (NAT) and using a
private IP, the external client will not be able to connect.
If this needs to be supported through the firewall, the firewall should
have an SIP filter to parse these SIP traffics through the firewall and
change the content. Therefore, the external client can know the actual IP
it need to connect to and ISA can open that port when the external client
connects. Currently, if you would like to initiate an Audio conversation,
please let the external client to do this. You can send an instant message
to the external client to ask him/her to initiate.
I appreciate your understanding and patience.
Please do let me know if you have any concerns. I look forward to hearing
from you. Have a nice day! :)
Best Regards
Edward Tian(MSFT)

| Does audio and video transmission in Windows Messenger work with ISA
2004? I
| have a client who wants simple video calling and Net Meeting is winding
| down. I'd rather start them on Windows Messenger, but they are using ISA
and
| ISA 2000 won't pass the data for Messenger. Does this work now or is it
SIP
| still not supported by ISA?

| Thanks,
