Hello Joek,
Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup.
Also, many thanks for Chad's great input.
According to your description, I understand that you have some questions
with OWA and CAL. If I have misunderstood your concern, please don't
hesitate to let me know.
Chad is right on target. If you are using per user CAL, OWA does access
Exchange resources and use a license so if you are logged into OWA in two
places, or twice on the same workstation, or are logged into OWA and
Outlook on the same system then you will be using two licenses. This should
apply to the new Outlook over HTTP as well, because it is still connecting
to, and using resources from, the Exchange server. In this newer version
users will be less apt to use up multiple licenses by opening OWA, then
navigating to another website and logging back into the original OWA
session because the new OWA client automatically disconnects the session if
you navigate away from the page or do not log out.
If using Per user as long as they logon to RWW and from the internal device
as the same user only 1 cal would be needed.
If they are using Per Device, then the device the connect to RWW from would
need 1 and if they connect to an internal device and then back to the
server.. that internal device would also need a cal. Assuming I'm using Per
Device CALS, meaning if I'm connecting to OWA from a device then my
understanding is that device would need a CAL, then if I use Remote Desktop
to connect to my XP desktop at work.. and then from there connect back to
the server, the XP desktop would also need a Per Device CAL, which most
likely the XP desktop at the office would already have one, but.. both
should need one..
