RE: Question For Any FrontPage Users Publishing Webs from SBS 2003

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for using SBS newsgroup.

Issue description:

============
I understand that you want to maintain a remote website which created by
Frontpage through ISA2004 via either web folder or frontpage.

Analyzing and suggestions:

============

Generally speaking, this issue might be caused by the authentication
setting on ISA; you can refer to my suggestion:

1. Please disable request authentication on ISA to allow the anonymous
access to that website, because as I know by default, ISA will enable
authentication for authorize the user to access internet, when you use web
folder or front page to remote control the website in internet, you may
encountered some problem.

A. Open ISA 2004.
B. Expand to configuration.
C. In the network component, click internal network.
D. In the web proxy tab, click authentication.
E. Make sure that require all user to authentication is not checked.

2. Please also check your internet access rules on firewall policy, make
sure that it is applied to all user not only the internet user.

Hope the above information helpful, if you have any further concerns,
please feel free to let me know. I will be here waiting for your updates.

| This question is for Small Business Server 2003 users that are
maintaining
| FrontPage webs on Windows 2003 web servers that are not a part of their
LAN.
| I am wondering if anyone has had problems using FrontPage to load their
web
| that is on the server or trying to view their web files in what is called
| Web Folders. I am not able to get logged on with either the FrontPage
| application or using my web folder link to my web site (using
| http://webname.com) I have no trouble going in ftp.
|
| Shortly after getting my SBS set up I had an authentication problem while
my
| web was on a Windows 2000 web server and was able to resolve the problem
by
| having my host change the Authentication Method for my web directory to
| Basic Authentication. (Microsoft has a KB article on this but I can't
| remember what number it is) They have since changed my directory to Basic
| Authentication on the Windows 2003 server but I am still not able to
| authenticate using FrontPage or with a web folder. I am prompted for a
| username/password and after supplying that the site never loads in
| FrontPage.
|
| I am almost 100% sure that it is an authentication issue that is being
| caused by being on an SBS network. When I bypass my SBS by connecting
| directly to my router I am able to log in like normal.
|
| One last point that I want to add is that I also have ISA 2004 and I have
| looked over it to see if there might be something keeping me from
| authenticating and have came up empty! Viewing the web in IE works fine
and
| I also have some sub webs that are password protected that I can
| authenticate to.
|
| If anyone is using FrontPage on an SBS server along with ISA 2004 and
| publishing to a Windows 2003 server that is outside of your SBS network
let
| me know if you have had any issues like I have described.
|
| Thanks
| Jeff
