We're using a self-issued certificate created by the SBS - we've never
purchased a 3rd-party certificate. The SBS cert is just fine because in
this case, you're not actually using it to verify your identity to unknown
3rd parties; you're simply using it as a means of encrypting the session
with the server. It still has to be installed as a "trusted" certificate
on your workstations, though, in order for it to be accepted automatically
by Outlook.
Does that make sense?
