RE: New SBS2003 install, WIN2k client can't access internet

Hello Matt,

Thank you for postig to the SBS Newsgroup.

I understand that after you "replaced" SBS 4.5 Server with SBS 2K3 Standard
Server, Windows XP client workstations work fine, the Windows 2K client
workstation cannot browse to the internet, only can visit the network. If I
have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

There are varies of factors can cause this issue, so please take your time
to gather the detailed information for us to isolate the issue, please see:

1. Does this issue only happen on one Windows 2K client workstation or all
Windows 2K client workstations?

2. Please capture a screen shot for "//www.google.com/connectcomputer" for
us to better understand your issue.

3. How did you replace the SBS 4.5 Server with SBS 2K3 Standard Server? Did
you follow the steps in the following document, or you follow any other
methods to do so?

Migrating from Small Business Server 4.5 or Windows NT Server 4.0 to
Windows Small Business Server 2003
http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/f/a/6fa5ebc5-5a0f-4990-8833-ed24f4d
a4289/SBS_MigratingSBS45.doc

4. Open a command window on the server and the problematic workstation, run
"ipconfig /all" (without quotation marks), copy and paste the full content
of the output result to the Newsgroup. [Note]: Please do not customize the
output.

5. Can you log on the SBS 2K3 domain on the problematic client
workstations?

6. Did you perform any steps on these Windows XP and 2K client
workstations?

7. On the problematic workstation, check its IE settings.

8. Run "eventvwr" (without quotation marks) on the problematic
workstations, are therer any error in the problematic workstation event
viewer? If yes, double click the error, click the Copy button and paste the
full content to the Newsgroup.

9. If you use the IP address to access the Internet Web site, does the
issue occur? For example, browse to 66.102.7.147, do they get to the
Google site? Can you open www.microsoft.com from the problematic
workstations?

10. Perform the following steps and see whether it works:

Add the SBS 2003 server's IP address or FQDN to the clients' Local Intranet
zone:

a. On a client computer, start Internet Explorer.

b. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

c. On the Security tab, click Local intranet zone, and then click Sites.

d. Click Advanced.

e. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type the ConnectComputer
server's IP address or the ConnectComputer server's FQDN
(servername.domainname.local), and then click Add.

Note You must type the ConnectComputer server's IP address or the
ConnectComputer server's FQDN in the http://IP address or http://FQDN
format.

f. Click OK, click OK, and then click OK.

I am appreciated your time and cooperation, and am looking forward to
hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee
