Hi Nish,
Thanks for your reply.
>From your detailed description, would you please help me check the file
version of MSDE components. To do that:
1. Open Windows Explorer, and then navigate to \Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL$SHAREPOINT\Binn\
2. Right-click 'sqlservr.exe' and choose 'Properties'.
3. In the properties window, click 'Version' tab. If the file version is
2000.80.884.0, the database engine should be updated (The original version
is 2000.80.880.0).
If the file was not updated, please download the package from the following
link and then manually install the update again:
Critical Update for SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (Windows) on Windows
Server 2003 (KB829358)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=814c230b-5c53-453f-
810a-b9505acf1392&displaylang=en
If the file has been already updated, the problem may be caused by the
corrupted registry keys. It is a known issue regarding SQL MSDE. The
workaround is to either delete or modify the content of the ProductCode key
in the registry for SharePoint, which can be found at:
1) Click 'Start'->'Run'. Type 'regedit' and press Enter.
2) Navigate to the following registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\SHAREPOINT\Setup
For example:
1. Delete the ProductCode key from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\SHAREPOINT\Setup
2. OR a milder approach (probably less intrusive approach) is to change the
content of Product code from {65657C59-23A8-4974-B8E0-BA04EBD04E4F} to
anything else, for my testing purposes, I changed it to
{65657C59-23A8-4974-B8E0-BA04EBD04E4F}INVALID
After this you should not see the update being offered repeatedly.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any further concerns or
questions regarding the issue.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)

| Hello Crina,
|
| appreciate the help.
|
|
| Ok, in regards to the first part WMSDE:
| I have the following 2 listed:-
| Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SHAREPOINT)
| Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SBSMONITORING)
|
|
| In regards, to KB829358 Update, this is what happens:
| We have been getting an Automatic Update Message saying that the above
| mentioned critical update is available for install. I therefore proceed
to
| install this. It appears to install and then do nothing. I reboot the
server
| and the same Auto update message comes back. I then proceeded to use
WINDOWS
| UPDATE from the START menu and that appeared to install the above
mentioned
| as well. I even got the message to say that the update was Successfull.
| Although it looks like it has installed it, it doesn't recognise it as
being
| installed upon a re-boot. During this whole process I do not get any
Error
| messages at all. It's very strange.
|
|
| In regards to the third part:
| I have tried the suggestion in regards to the MSCONFIG part and
| unfortunately, this has not resolved the problem.
|
| I have emailed you the WMSDEHotfix.log file. I hope you find this useful.
|
| Tks
| Nish.
