RE: Not able to connect to client from RWW page

Hello Chang,

Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.

I understand that two of you 3 Windows XP clients cannot connect open RWW
page, but they can use remote desktop. If I have misunderstood your issue,
please let me know.

Please see my following information:

1> How did this problematic client account being created? Did you create
them by running Add User Wizard (Server Management\Standard
Management\Users). The client account must be listed in the Remote Web
Workplace Users Group. Please refer to my steps below:

a: Login the server as Administrator.

b: Expand Server Management\Standard Management\Security Groups.

c: On the right panel, double click Remote Web Workplace User.

d: Go to Members tab, click Add.

e: Enter the problematic client account email address.

f: You also can click Advanced, click Find Now, and find this client's
account in the Search Results pool.

g: Click OK three times.

h: Test whether this client can log in RWW now.

i: If still does not work, please see my suggestions below.

2> Rerun CEICW. When you proceed to the Web Server Certificate page, make
sure that you input the public IP as the web server certificate. For
detailed steps, please see:

825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763

3> Open IIS MMC, expand to IIS\Yourdomain (local Computer)\Web
Sites\Default Web Site. Right click Default Web Site, Properties. The
settings are:

Web Site tab:

Description: Default Web Site
IP address: Your internal IP address
TCP Port 80, SSL port 443
Check the box Enable Logging

Home Directory tab:

A directory located on this computer
Local path: %systemroot%\inetpub\wwwroot
Read, Log visits and Index this resource
Application name: Default Application
Execute Permissions: Scripts only
Application pool: DefaultAppPool

If the issue persists, please help to gather the following information for
research:

1. Does this issue happen on LAN or from the Internet?

When you try to access the RWW home page from the Internet, the router or
hardware firewall must forward TCP port 443 for HTTPS protocol and 80 for
HTTP protocol to your SBS server. So please check whether the TCP port 443
and 80 is open.

Make user that use https://<external IP>/remote or
https://mail.domain.com/remote to access from Internet, and use
https://servername/remote to access from the LAN.

2. If this issue happens from the Internet, please draw a Network Diagram
for us to better understand your Network Topology. For example:

{Internet} {Router} {ISA}{SBS 2K3 with 2 NICs} {Clients}

3. What is the exactly problem? Do you mean they cannot open the front page
of RWW or they can go to the front page, just after entering their user
names and passwords, they cannot access further?

4. On the problematic workstation, open IE, Tools, Internet Options,
Advanced tab. Uncheck the box Show friendly HTTP error messages. Click OK
and reproduce the issue again. Paste the full content of the message to the
Newsgroup.

5. Can you access OWA (https://servername/exchange) from the problematic
workstations?

6. Open IIS MMC, expand to IIS\Yourdomain (local Computer)\Web
Sites\Default Web Site. Right click Default Web Site, Properties. Web Site
tab. Click Properties. You will see the Log File Directory, and please
paste the whole error information in the file to the Newsgroup.

7. Disable any third party services on the problematic workstations and
test again.

I am appreciated your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please
let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Brandy Nee
