RE: Sharepoint and SBS2003 SP1

First of all, I hope you are installing these service packs according to this
guide:
http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=236

Here are some links I found helpful for this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;840685 (I'm guessing
you already tried that)
http://msmvps.com/cgross/archive/2004/07/01/9374.aspx

If those don't help and your MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service won't start and stay
running, then you may have the same problem I did.

This wasn't exactly an easy fix and I don't remember all the steps involved
so bare with me.

I was working on this over the phone with an MS mvp. Took us most
of the day but we tracked the issue down to several updates not installing
properly. Not only that but, after installing SBS Service pack 1, a few of
my databases were corrupt and several were missing.

Also, for some reason SBS was looking for the databases on the D drive. By
creating the same folder structure on the D drive and copying the databases
over to that folder I was able to start the mssql$sharepoint service and it
actually stayed running this time.

Luckily where my database data folder was there was also a backup data
folder where I had backups from my databases before SP1.
I'm guessing this is an automatic and periodic backup with SBS but I'm glad
the databases were there.

Once I restored them to the default location I was able to run the upgrade
scripts and then install SQL SP4 properly.

If you upgraded to ISA 2004 then your publishing rules may have been messed
up a bit too. You may need to revise them once you get your sharepoint/sql
problems fixed.

I hope this is enough info to help you out.
