Hello Woo,
Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup.
According to your description, I understand that you received the error
message "mail system wrong DLL", and the inbound fax cannot was deliver to
your e-mail account. If I have misunderstood your concern, please don't
hesitate to let me know.
To narrow down this issue, please answer and perform the following
questions and steps:
1. Based on my research, these DLLs that provide the fax routing:
Fxsroute.dll: E-mail, Folder, Printing; Sbsfaxrouteext.dll: SharePoint.
Since this issue occurs on route fax through e-mail, please also re-check
if the inbound fax can store in a folder or route to print. If it all fail,
please perform the below steps to Re-register fxsroute.dll:
a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click
OK.
b. At the MS-DOS prompt, type cd c:\windows\system32, and then press
ENTER.
c. At the next prompt, type regsvr32 /u fxsroute.dll, you may receive
an error message.
d. Once completed, type regsvr32 fxsroute.dll, and then press ENTER.
e. After you receive the following message, type exit at the prompt,
and then press ENTER:
Dll register server in fxsroute.dll succeeded.
f. Restart your computer.
2. Please verify Enable SMTP e-mail receipts delivery and Use these SMTP
settings for the Route Through E-Mail incoming routing method are enabled
(checked).
3. Please verify Route through e-mail incoming method is enabled, and the
mailbox to receive the incoming faxes has a valid e-mail address. Please
also try to change a e-mail address and try again.
4. Please verify the Exchange Sever can send and receive e-mail.
5. Please copy the exact error message and paste it in your reply. If you
received the error message 'Mail System Dll is invalid', please refer to
the below information:
Regarding the 'Mail System Dll is invalid' error message, it is expected
and a by design feature due to SBS is not recommended to have Outlook
install. You do not need to worry about it and it will not affect the fax
routing. If you want to work around this error message, you could use the
following steps.
A. Rename Mapi32.dll (the Exchange Server version) in \windows\system32 to
mapi32x.dll.
B. Rename the mapistub.dll in \windows\system32 to mapi32.dll.
C. Now when you open the Fax Console, right click a Fax, and select "Mail
To", Outlook Express is invoked and we can use this send the fax manually
from the server.
6. If you need to reinstall the fax component, please perform the below
steps:
A. Rename the keys and files below to *.old
1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fax
2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Fax
3) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\fax
4) The 'SBSMIS-FAX.log' file under 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs'.
5) The 'SBSMSI-faxcfg.log' file under 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\Logs'.
6) The 'faxsetup.log' file under 'C:\WINDOWS\'.
B. Access Add/Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components,
uncheck 'Fax Services' to uninstall it.
C. Once it is uninstalled, access Add/Remove Programs to
reinstall it.
D. Then, access 'Add/Remove Programs again', this time, we will
click 'Change/Remove' on the 'Windows Small Business Server 2003' item:
1) Click 'Next' on the 'Microsoft Windows Small Business Server
Setup' page.
2) Click 'Next' on the 'Windows Configuration' page.
Note: It states that 'This will take approximately 30 minutes', it is
referring to the total time it will take in the first SBS component
installation. For the task such as remove a specific component, it will
just take couple of minutes.
3) Now, in the 'Component Selection' page, choose 'Remove' before
the 'Fax Services' item.
4) Click 'Next', and then click 'Next' again to confirm 'Component
Summary'. You will be prompted to insert the SBS 2K3 setup Disc 1.
E. Once the removal process is completed, access 'Windows Small
Business Server setup' again in 'Add/Remove Programs', proceed to the
'Component Selection' page, and then choose 'Install' for the 'Fax
Services' item.
I am appreciated your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please
feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Nathan Liu (MSFT)
