Would un-installing & re-installing the MS Client have some affect?

Re-installing the workstation OS might work for this WS, but if the root cause is elsewhere, then it's not a good solution. (side note, I'd put my effort into installing XP Pro instead of 2k).
A look at your event logs and network topology would be extremely helpful, as you may not realize how in the dark we actually are at the other end of a newsgroup thread.
And, yes, I'd start with a fresh workstation account, created on the SBS using the Add Computer Wizard.
