RE: Mobile - notebooks - add to domain?

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi Nikki,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

>From your description, I understand you want to know if you need to add the
3 notebooks to SBS domain. If I have misunderstood your concerns, please do
not hesitate to let me know.

As Lanwench said, there is some problem regarding the password change. You
need to configure the domain user account you used to log on to OWA etc as
following:

1. Right click the user name and select properties.
2. On Account tab, select User can not change password.

However, it may cause security problem. If you join these computers to
domain, they will be easy to be managed and you can deploy them though GPO
etc. So, we recommend you join these computers to domain.

Hope the information help and I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)

| Hi!
| I have 3 notebooks - mobile users which are rarely in the office. I
| configured VPn (WIn SBS) connectivity for them so they can access email &
| files and they can also use OWA and SharePoint services. They do come to
the
| office, say 1-2 days per week. Is there any real reason why would I add
their
| computers to the domain? (they have their individual AV software,
software
| update, they don't need any software installed from the server..etc) -
users
| would be happier if they are left as they are - unless there is a real
reason
| to add them to the domain.
| Thanks!!!
