Hi Billy,
Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
>From your description, I understand you have connected to SBS through
remote desktop from China office to Hong Kong office, however, you can not
find the local printer in China from the remote desktop. If I have
misunderstood your concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.
As I know, this problem may occur because the printer port does not begin
with COM, LPT, or USB. By default, printer port names that do not begin
with COM, LPT, or USB are only redirected in Windows Server 2003. By
default, multifunction print devices may not be redirected unless you are
running Windows Server 2003 on your local computer because they use DOT4
ports. To resolve this problem on a computer that is not running Windows
Server 2003, please force all ports (including DOT4) on the client computer
to be filtered for redirection. For detailed information, please refer to
the following KB article:
302361 Printers That Use Ports That Do Not Begin With COM, LPT, or USB Are
Not
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=302361
If it does not work, there're another 2 possible causes for such issues:
1. The local printer's driver is not for Windows Server 2003, you must
install the driver for the printer on the SBS Server before using the
printer redirection feature in RWW or Remote Desktop.
To do so:
1) Click Start and click Printers and Faxes.
2) Click File menu and click Server Properties.
3) Click Drivers tab and click Add button.
4) Follow the wizard and complete adding the printer driver on the SBS
server.
2. Even you're able to install the printer's driver to the SBS machine with
a third party driver disk (file), the printer may be not compatible with
Windows Server 2003 operating system.
To make sure that your printer is compatible with Windows Server 2003,
please check the HCL list:
http://www.microsoft.com/hcl
Hope this information helps. If you have any further questions or concern
on this issue, please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to
hearing from you.
Best regards,
Crina Li (MSFT)

| Hi all,
|
| We are using SBS2003 in our Hong Kong office. Occasionally, I need to stay
| in China office and logon the SBS2003 through internet by means of remote
| desktop connection. But I found that even though I enable printer check
box
| of the local resources tag in the setting screen, I still cannot see the
| client computer printer (which is HP Standard TCP/IP Port) on the server
| desktop. How
| can print it?
|
| Your help would be appreciate.
