RE: W3WC.EXE Keep Crashing

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi Andre,

Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.

>From your description, I understand you have encountered "W3WC.EXE Keep
Crashing" error after installing SBS 2003 SP1. If I have misunderstood your
concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

I have done much research, however, I can not find the W3WC.EXE on SBS.
Would you please help me confirm if the error message is correct? Is it
W3WP.exe?

Technically speaking, it is difficult to troubleshoot a crash issue as the
troubleshooting process is time-consuming. If the error is regarding
W3WP.EXE, it may be caused by the problem of World Wide Web Publishing
Service when the IIS6 Application pool (w3wp.exe) crashes when an http
request is being processed. Without mattering what the cause of the crash
is, this error is logged. If you just cancel the w3wp.exe process from the
task manager when a request is being process, this error will also be
logged.

Usually, for the W3WP crashing issue, we may need to perform debugging
troubleshooting.

Currently, I would like to provide some KB articles for your reference:

300966 How to debug heap corruption issues in Internet Information Services
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300966

873264 The W3wp.exe file that is used to create and to publish to the Web in
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=873264

If the problem is still regarding W3WC.EXE, please check third party IIS
plug-ins or third party apps.

Also, if there are any error messages regarding this on event log, please
post to newsgroup.

Hope the information help and I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Crina Li (MSFT)
